Community Work

One of the aims of SOEL is to support the national and international community development of Stockwell Green Community Services (SGCS), our umbrella organisation. Many of our projects are with local authorities, central government, including Home Office, London Probation and Metropolitan Police. SOEL makes contributes financial and human resources towards projects and initiatives, a few examples are below:

CEP - Community Employment Project

In partnership with Lambeth Council - Regeneration & Enterprise this projects provides free training and employment support to the local community. 2 full scholarships offered so far to the most talented.

Pakistan Flood Relief Efforts

Toaha Qureshi MBE, CEO SOEL, has personally visited Pakistan 3 times during the floods that struck Pakistan and destroyed the homes, businesses and lives of millions. The College has supported Pakistan through the following efforts:

  1. Donation of 300 Blankets
  2. Installation of Pump Waters
  3. Financial Support to 20 Family Businesses

Mayor of Waltham Forest Charity Dinner

During a charity dinner hosted by the Mayor of Waltham Forest, Masood Ahmad, SOEL made contributions towards the Whipps Cross Hospital and the Farishteh Trust for a portable ultrasound scanner and a specially adapted minibus. To read the letter from the Mayor of Waltham Forest, please click here.

Kazakh Gala

SOEL was proud to support Kazakh Gala, a music education charity, which has made significant contributions to educate the community in Kazakhstan. SOEL offered 2 scholarships for 2 persons to study in any discipline at the college to students that use Kazakh Galas services. The nomination and selection process is under way.

May and Baker Sports and Social Club Benefits from SOEL Donation

SOEL awarded a donation to the M&B Sports and Social Club, based in Dagenham, which was used for the M&B Cricket Club. John-Paul Heppell, Club Secretary, stated that through this donation theclub managed to secure "the immediate future of a community based organisation". Phillipes Typhoon Appeal

SOEL presented a cheque for a donation of £2,000 to the Filipino community to help the relief efforts in the Philippines after the disaster caused by Typhoon Haiyan.
