Welcome Message from the CEO of SOEL

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to School of Economics and Law (SOEL), formerly known as London College of Business Management and Information Technology (LCBMIT).

As a higher education establishment with a Tier 4 licence, we aim to ensure that you graduate with skills that you can use in the social and business worlds. The two have always been interdependent, and as an enterprise with a social purpose and drive, SOEL hopes you will become an employable and socially responsible graduate.

An unrivalled effort goes into ensuring that you receive an excellent student experience and feel part of an institution that you can take pride in. The fact that we continually over-achieve in our external validations by our accrediting bodies, demonstrates the academic standards and quality that you can expect at SOEL. The Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) identified our good practices and in their report have stated, “comprehensive and effective arrangements for both academic and pastoral student support”, they went on to say “the involvement of students in community and social responsibility activities enhances their learning experience and helps to develop employability and social skills”. Students are a key stakeholder in our institution and we put them at the focus of our development, involving them at all stages.

Our undergraduate and postgraduate courses are vocational, and offer an alternative, fast track route to universities. Our exciting and practical courses range from Business to Law, Healthcare to Tourism, and IT to Accountancy. We promise to keep our fees affordable as well as easy to pay, and our undergraduate tuition fees currently remain well below the private and public institute average.

Student financial support schemes, run through numerous scholarship funds, is extraordinary; between 2010 and 2013 we have issued over 1000 scholarships. These scholarships have extended tremendously nationally as well as internationally and now include official partnerships with academic institutions and government bodies.

The faculties comprise of highly experienced academics and practitioners, from renowned universities around the world. You can expect them to challenge your thinking, so you develop an in depth understanding of your chosen subject. They have extensive networks in the industry, which enables our students to have a better understanding of the real world. Our quality is also reinforced by our external academic members and validation, a strength identified by the QAA and our awarding bodies respectively.

SOEL endeavours to share a wealth of knowledge to our students through the Executive Lecture Series (ELS) which helps to nurture your social responsibility skills. World renowned social entrepreneurs, government officials, media personalities, FTSE 100 companies, academia, community organisations and the like have all spoken at the forum where our students have benefitted from real life, practical experiences in the field.

When we hopefully reach our target to become a university by the year 2020, this will be a celebration for our students, staff and the community.

I wish you all the best in your studies, and I know our staff look forward to providing you the quality education and services that you deserve. It will be a pleasure to have you join us and I will personally see you at your induction.

Profound Regards,

Toaha Bashir MBE
